The issue that I have would be considered many things, yet the issue would most likely
be considered social. My issue is the conservation of animal species, which leads to animal
treatment. Although my issue's focus is on, I think it is also social, because it is because of
humans that animals are being abused, tested on, in danger of becoming extinct, if not have
already gone extinct. Because of humans, animals are used for entertainment on circuses and
other shows, we consume millions of them, we kill animals for their fur & to make clothes, and
we use them as test subjects for new medicines.
"When it comes to feelings like pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy" says
Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder of people for the ethical treatment for animals (PETA). This quote
is significant because it demonstrates that to some humans, every animal is the same, that every
animal should be treated the same way. The quote also says that animals can feel pain, they can
feel hunger in case of neglect as well as in the case for thirst. Animals should be treated the same
as humans because they feel those things as well just as any other human would.Animals deserve
to have the same rights as a human does because they are organisms that also experience pain
and every other emotion that we are able to feel. This is the reason why my issue is social because
most human societies believe that just because we are on the top of the food chain, that we should
treat animals as what they are and not like us. As long as most percent of the world's human pop-
pulation have the mindset of superiority to animals, this issue will be a social issue above any other
type.
There are multiple perspectives on the issue of animal abuse, endangerment, or extinction. The
main perspective is that since humans are above every other organism in the food chain, than
humans are superior and are the only ones that deserve rights. This perspective on some make them
think that animals are just animals and that they have no feelings. They also think that animals are
in this world for us to eat them, provide fur or wool for our clothing, or simply for our entertainment.
The other perspective on the issue is the perspective from people that believe that animals have
rights as well. They believe that humans are not the only ones that deserve to have rights, and that
they are equal to humans."If you don't think it's not right to eat your brother for dinner, the say,
than it's not right to slaughter a calf, either" (Katie Monagle, 1993). This person believes that a
child is as important as a calf which we eat to consume. There are conflicting viewpoints on my
issue, but in my mind I believe that animals do deserve rights and are equal to us.
