Ted Talk
Neglect and abandonment are the most common forms of companion animal abuse in the United States. Interesting, yet disturbing fact isn't it? Is this world perfect? Or better yet, do humans improve our world or are we destroying it? There are many problems that make this world wrong. There is violence
amoungst ourselves, animal cruelty, pollution, misuse of natural renewable and non-renewable resources, and I can tell you this, humans are the cause of
all these problems. Whether it is the advancement of humankind or the inability to think about our race's future, the problems facing our planet have no simple solutions. The issue that is concerning is animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is wrong because it is a driving force to be able to see what humans are doing to this world to make it wrong. Us, humans always ask ourselves, well, what is wrong with the world? I honestly do not know why we ask ourselves this question if the majority of the problems that affect our world are because of us. Animal cruelty is unjust. Whatever happened to Social Justice? Social Justice is supposed to be doing the right in order to achieve success for unjust situations. We always want Social Justice for ourselves, but how come we can not provide it and fight for the "Social Justice" of animals. If animals are being abused, killed, or used for experiments, how come we are not fighting to do the "right thing". According to Do Something.org(which is a website that creates awareness about important issues) by 2022, 22% of all species will be extinct if no action is taken. Shocking isn't it? Poaching, destruction of natural habitat, contamination, there are just so many ways in which humanity contributes to this, even if you are doing so unconsciously. We are all part of this world. This planet does not only belong to us, we share it with many, many organisms. So, instead of destroting these organisms, we should do something about it.
What does it mean to be human? Well, that's an easy one. We are the world's most advanced and intelligent organism in the face of the planet. We always compare ourselves to animals, how we do this and that, but comiting animal cruelty makes us no different, or makes us even worse from an animal. One of the largest contributions to animal cruelty is through so called" animal experimentation". According to Do Something.org more than 25 million vertebrate animals are used in testing in the United States each year, and when invertebrate animals are thrown into the mix, the estimated number rises to as high as 100 million. This is really sad to hear, and to bear with the burden too. It is sad to think that we do not even respect man's best friend anymore, who have been by our side for thousands of years. Dogs-and the pitbull breed in particular-are the most common victims of animal cruelty. We should not be doing this to man's best friend, nor even any other animal like our closest relatives, primates.
In the end, we should try to solve the animal cruelty injustice instead of making it worse. We should try to fight for the justice of those who can not fight for it on their own. Animals do soo much for us, and now we should do something back for them. Let's create awareness and fight to preserve our species that are wonderful, beautiful, majestic, and unique. How can we allow beautiful creatures that take part in our world to disappear with out a fight. Animals may have toxins, venom, claws, fangs, tusks, or brute strength, but we are worse having potential to destroy anything that we want. We also have the potential to fight and save our animals and finally achieve Social Justice. We should see the clear example of what humanity is doing to animals to finally have a more clear perspective about ourselves and finally be able to ask, What is wrong with the world? by: Marco Campos
