Globalization Contextual Essay
Globalization is a growing concern that is affecting people all over the world and it also affects ecosystems and plant & animal species as well. It is because of some person's, some government’s, or some countries’ personal needs or personal desires to obtain natural resources or simply resources that they don't even need that disrupt ecosystems. According to The Merriam-Webster Dictionary globalization is: the development of an increasingly integrated global economy. With globalization come privatization, imperialism, and the involvement of global organizations like the World Trade Organization (WTO) for example. Again globalization affects not only poor people in "underdeveloped" countries, but also ecosystems which in hand affect animals due to loss of habitat and habitat destruction. Globalization affects animal species because it takes away food resources from animals, it affects breeding seasons in animal species, and ultimately animals get killed because they are viewed as competition.
Globalization is: the development of an increasingly integrated global economy according to The Merrian-Webster Dictionary. There are multiple perspectives to globalization. There are some individuals that are in favor of globalization, yet there are many more individuals that are against it. Wealthy "developed" countries with their high governments are mainly those that are in favor of globalization. Those individuals that have liberal views, and also those that believe in human rights, animal rights, and social justice in general are against globalization. The "developed" countries go to "underdeveloped" countries and use their people and deprive those countries of their natural resources which cause imperialism and all just to improve more the "global" economy but in reality only benefits the "developed" counties. Globalization also causes environmental concerns due to industrialization in industrialized countries to pitch in to the "global" economy, but all those countries are doing is just contribute to pollution. As one can see globalization actually gives more reasons to encourage people to be against it than to support it.
Globalization definitely has an impact on the issue of animal conservation and animal populations in general. Global organizations like the WTO which "regulate" global trade affect the issue because "underdeveloped" countries are in major debt with the "developed" countries which pushes the governments of the poor countries to do whatever it takes to try to get out of debt taking with them innocent animals along the way. Some of the most affected countries are African countries for example, where charcoal is obtained by local poor farmers and they obtain the charcoal from forests where thousands of animal species live. The local farmers view the mountain gorilla, which is a species in danger of extinction, as competition because they live in the areas where they have to obtain the charcoal for example. The poor local farmers sell the charcoal to the government because they need some sort of income, while those governments sell and trade that charcoal to try to get out of debt. The way that people eliminate or deal with the competition is by killing it off. This means that people kill the mountain gorillas, lowering their population numbers even more. This issue is the same in other parts of the world, for different reasons, and with other animals viewed as pests or competitions to people just wanting to make a living for their families and to survive.
Globalization directly contributes to social, political, and economic issues of the world.Globalization contributes to social problems around the world because globalization brings forth imperialism. Wealthy industries from around the world take their production lines to poor countries for their cheap labor. The large industries have "sweat shops" with terrible, and inhumane treatment for the workers and all just for a really low wage with which they get paid. Sweat shops are bad and violate human rights, and also violate social justice. Globalization contributes to social issues trough social justice violations in sweat shops in some cases. Globalization contributes to political issues as well, trough people's actions against global organizations. There are individuals that make protests to push governments for equality and to do something about the violation of human rights in sweat shops. The protesters push governments to make laws against inequalities or they simply just don't agree with the involvement of their country in globalization, and this causes political issues. There is also contribution to economics from globalization. Globalization is all about economics. Wealthy countries want more wealth than they already have while poor countries keep getting more in debt because of the loans with high interest from the IMF (International Monetary Fund). Globalization does contribute to social, political, and economic issues around the world.
Globalization could change in order to help the issue of animal conservancy and animal populations. The way that globalization could change to help solve the issue is by getting rid of or regulating more efficiently the WTO, the IMF, or World Bank. These international organizations have more problems than benefits. If the IMF had not such a bad system and had low interests on the loans that they give to poor countries than those poor countries would not be in a large debt. If the WTO had not exist than poor people from poor countries would not have to do anything it takes to earn a living for themselves or their families. The way that these options would change globalization, and ultimately help animal conservation is by poor people not having to compete with wild animals for resources. If humans wouldn't have to compete with wild animals for resources than the animals would have a real fighting chance to survive and increase their population numbers.
Globalization could change to maximize the potential of a global system with measures, regulation of wealthy countries, and regulation of the negative effects to the environment. If globalization had measures than any other poor country would not be taken advantage of from the wealthier countries. If there is regulation of wealthy "developed" countries than those countries would have no need to get more than what they deserve and should have. If wealthy countries would be regulated in economic terms than even poor countries would keep as much of their natural resources as possible, and they would also have a descent amount of wealth to be used for its people. If the negative effects that globalization has on the environment were to be regulated, than that would ensure minimal damage to the environment and also protection to wildlife & ecosystem in the world. These three specific ways could change globalization in order to minimize its negative effects, and most importantly the negative effects done to the environment.
Due to globalization, animal species are decreasing due to human needs. Because of human's desire to have wealth, and as much as possible, animal's populations are decreasing. Some animals are viewed as competition to a country that wants wealth when that animal all it's trying to do is to survive. If the animals are killed or their natural habitats are getting destroyed, than those animals will have nothing to live for and they wouldn't be able to reproduce and expand their populations. Some species that are in danger of becoming extinct are at a higher risk of actually going extinct due to humanity's globalization. Some men are willing to contribute to the global economy when in reality all they are doing is to contribute to the destruction of the environment and the innocent species that live in it and which they share with.
